Sound it out: s, a, t, then sat
This film is the ReadBorn Sound Car, recorded on a real phone. The word sat sits in three boxes, one box per sound. As your child drives the car under each box, the app plays that sound: s, a, t. Then your child drives it again and says the sounds out loud, and on the fast lap reads the whole word, sat. The app never says the word first, because joining the sounds is the skill being built, so the turn always goes back to your child. That is the step most children get stuck on when they know every letter sound but still cannot read the word, and it is the step ReadBorn listens for.

Your child reads out loud. ReadBorn listens and helps only when they get stuck.

ReadBorn is an iPhone and iPad app that teaches children to read by phonics for ages 3 to 8 and up. The child sounds words out loud, the app listens with Apple's speech recognition and helps only when they get stuck, and it hatches a baby animal for every class the child finishes.
